STRENGTHEN YOUR COMMUNITY

Increasing community awareness of wildfire risk while enhancing public safety and community resilience from threats of wildfires in the Appalachian Mountains Wildland Urban Interface (WUI).

Mountain Valleys RC&D can help your community build wildfire resilience through prevention, planning, and preparedness. We offer services that include the following.

Mitigation Cost-Share Assistance

Residents in our 8-county region can receive 50% reimbursement for reducing wildfire risk within 100 feet of the home and 10 feet from the driveway.

Mitigation Tool Cache

Mountain Valleys has a tool cache available for residents to use to complete mitigation tasks - for free!

Firewise USA Program

The Firewise USA Recognition Program is a process that empowers neighbors to work together in reducing their wildfire risk. Brush, grass and forest fires don’t have to be disasters.

To save lives and property from wildfire, NFPA’s Firewise Communities program teaches people how to adapt to living with wildfire and encourages neighbors to work together and take action now to prevent losses. We all have a role to play in protecting ourselves and each other from the risk of wildfire.

Wildfire Risk Assessments

Mountain Valleys provides assistance to residents and communities to identify their wildfire risk. By having an assessment completed, you can gain awareness of what factors put you at risk and mitigation tasks you can complete to reduce your risk. Home assessments take 30-35 minutes and are completely free. Read more about assessments in this blog post.
